- So after almost a year of confusion and changes down at Diamondhead Media Group, KOKORO USA finally held its Warrior Spirit Destiny #2 show at the Smith Center in Washington D.C., a show that was originally slated for last August. Hello once again wrestling fans. I'm Maggie Paulson, and God I'm so glad to be back on the internet reporting about the latest K-USA shows.
So much has happened since the last time I recapped for K-USA. KOKORO veteran and Taipan Dojo co-founder "Talion Angel" Sonya Benedict officially retired from wrestling just a couple months ago, after a long and brutal feud with cousin "Murder Machine" Myra Benedict. So K-USA fans will no longer get to see her in action. And at the same time, it appears as the "Murder Machine" is no more, as Myra has undergone a shocking attitude change since her war with the "Talion Angel". So suffice it to say, all eyes were on Warrior Spirit Destiny #2, eager to see how these changes had affected things.
K-USA #3 - WARRIOR SPIRIT DESTINY #2
Smith Center, Washington D.C.
Attendance: 5,059 (Over-Sold Out)
The young Canadian Dani Colston is building a great start for herself, already earning her first championship in one company, and facing the toughest competition in Japan. While she lost in her first K-USA appearance, Dani was hopeful to turn things around against "Spitfire" Kyra Braddock - who lately has been spending more time teaming with partner and KOKORO veteran "Black" Jayde Griffen.
[SINGLES MATCH]
"Spitfire" Kyra Braddock vs. Dani Colston
Right off the bat, the D.C. crowd was clearly behind Colston, which got under Braddock's skin as she got distracted, turning to exchange words with several of them. But once she turned her attention back to Colston, she really laid into the rookie with that very effective European style. Dani showed her toughness though, proving why she belonged in the K-USA ring. After taking quite a beating early on, she turned the tables and showed Braddock that she could dish it out as well as take it, taking Kyra down and applying a Canadian Cloverleaf on her which she held for close to a minute. Braddock finally found a way to force her off, but by the time she was back on her feet, Colston hit her with the high impact Body Check and hooked her legs for a well earned victory.
WINNER: Dani Colston via Pinfall with the Body Check (Lanzarse).
The last time we saw Hannah Kristian, she was using the nickname "Hunter Killer". But word is that she's since changed it to "The Heroine". Nevertheless, Hannah came out to the ring next to talk about her match with Myra Benedict. Hannah made it crystal clear that despite all the stories she's heard recently about Benedict's changed attitude, "You're still a criminal; and I'm still bringing you to justice."
[SINGLES MATCH]
"Dark Paladin" Myra Benedict vs. "The Heroine" Hannah Kristian
Hannah was immediately on the offensive, taking the fight to the veteran Benedict. She unleashed her full arsenal of wrestling and martial arts on the former "Murder Machine", at one point grounding her and busting her open with repeated shots. Kristian was vicious, determined to make Myra pay for all her past crimes. Benedict was certainly game though, and came back with a vengeance. The two went back and forth for several minutes, matching blow for blow in what almost seemed like a MMA-style fight. Myra didn't seem out to maim her opponent like most wrestling fans have come to expect, but she wasn't going to take a beating lying down. The fight eventually spilled to the floor, and both women worked from there to the backstage area where the battle continued, until Benedict brought Hannah down with a nasty DDT, simultaneously locking Kristian into the Venom Clutch. Hannah did her best to fight it, even hoisting Myra up and rising to her feet before slamming Benedict through a door, but Myra kept the hold applied, and Hannah eventually lost consciousness.
WINNER: "Dark Paladin" Myra Benedict via Submission with the Venom Clutch.
Post-match, Myra lingered around while the ref revived Hannah, before helpin g "The Heroine" to her feet in a show of respect. But as soon as Kristian realized who it was, she shoved Benedict out of her way and groggily left under her own power. But then Myra was attacked from by her protege Hitomi Akera with a crowbar. Hitomi connected with several good shots, knocking Myra to the floor for several more before security was able to pull her off.
[SINGLES MATCH]
Kiora Donavon vs. "Nightshade" Sora Kawaii
Easily the most violent match on the show, Donavon and Kawaii fought eachother tooth and nail from bell to bell. Or rather, from before the bell, as Kiora attacked Sora as she made her entrance, and the two brawled throughout the Smith Center for several minutes before finding their way back into the ring. Things didn't get much better from there though, as the two slugged it out with neither woman backing down and both bleeding from the shots. When things spilled back out to the floor, Kiora hit a nasty DDT that busted Kawaii up further, before transitioning into a fujiwara armbar. "Nightshade" fought out of it though, blasting Donavon with a bag of some unknown object from under the ring, before dumping its contents (crushed glass) on Donavon's face and stomping at it repeatedly. Sora then pulled her up and connected with the K-Obsidian dropping Kiora on the floor head-first, but was shockingly unable to pin her with that. And when she went for a Ganso Bomb, Donavon slipped out and got back on the apron. Sora followed and the two exchanged blows again there, until Donavon kicked low and connected with a piledriver off the apron - bouncing Kawaii's head off the floor. But she was unable to secure the pin as well. But the match finally ended with her applying the Kiora Claw for the win.
WINNER: Kiora Donavon via Submission with the Kiora Claw.
Upon returning to her feet, Sora and Kiora had a long staredown, before Donavon threw a punch and Kawaii answered it. But then, to everybody's surprise, the two women smiled and shook hands to end the exchange. Both women got mics and promised that this was only the beginning. Out came Donavon's lover and tag team partner Andrea Kristian, along with Hitomi Akera - the woman who previously attacked Myra Benedict, and all four announced that with Benedict's new attitude, "The Kindred is dead. But the Blood Pact is just getting started."
S[SINGLES MATCH]
"Psycho Siren" Andrea Kristian vs. Melinda Rhodes
With Sonya Benedict now officially retired, K-USA fans were treated to a huge surprise - as "The ACE Rebel" Melinda Rhodes announced her arrival in KOKORO, and took Benedict's place in the match. With the sound of the bell, both women locked up in a collar-and-elbow, and exchanged a series of reversals trying to gain the upper hand before Kristian finally scored with a waistlock takedown. From there, she immediately started dry humping the debuting Rhodes from behind, and Melinda was none-too-pleased. Launching her arm backwards and up, she caught Andrea with a nasty elbow shot to the chin, knocking her off while Melinda got back to her feet. And it was clear from that point on that she had snapped, as she took the fight to Andrea - dishing out as much punishment as possible. At one point she sent Kristian for an Irish whip, before ducking low and launching her up over the top rope and down to the floor with a back body drop. The fight continued on the outside at that point, with Andrea gaining the advantage for a little while as well, turning the tables with a throat strike before taking Rhodes down with her STOrgasm onto a steel folding chair. Then pulled Melinda up for her Bareback (uranage backbreaker). But Melinda showed that she didn't have any ring rust, as she refused to stay down for the count, and soon regained control of the match. But unlike Andrea, Rhodes wasn't going for the pin at all. She never even tried to, intent on teaching Andrea a lesson for the dry humping stunt. The two had fought their way up onto the stage, with Kristian trying her best to get the upper hand again, when out of nowhere, Melinda hit the Shot in the Dark _off_ the stage, driving Andrea down onto the concrete below. But she still wouldn't go for the pin, mercilessly putting the boots to Kristian over and over, before the ref finally signaled for the bell.
WINNER: Melinda Rhodes via KO with the Shot in the Dark & Repeated Boots.
Post-match, Rhodes wasn't interested in stopping her attack, as she climbed back onto the stage and hit her Crescant Drop (moonsault double knee drop) onto a still unconscious Andrea, before raining down punch after punch on her until more refs came out and finally pulled her off.
After Warrior Spirit Destiny #1, the press in Japan started calling Izumi Sato the "Pure Heart Warrior", for taking such a horrendous beating from "Mockingbird" Nina Grimsson, and still fighting back despite the blood loss and damage she endured. Well it seems that Sato has taken that name to heart (no pun intended), as she has since dropped her "Sugar Blossom" nickname, and vowed to earn the new nickname.
[BEST OF 7 SERIES SINGLES MATCH]
"Pure Heart Warrior" Izumi Sato[2] vs. Tesla St. James[2]
The fifth match began with both Sato and St. James shaking hands in a show of respect to start things off. Things then started off relatively slow, with both women circling and sizing eachother up, before finally coming together in a collar-and-elbow tie-up. Tesla went behind with a rear waistlock, but Izumi countered into a hammerlock, and St. James reversed that into a full nelson, which Izumi then countered with a jawbreaker. Tesla stumbled from that, but then Izumi turned and snapped off a quick suplex. Both women got back to their feet at the same time though, and there was a brief stand-off with the crowd showing its appreciation. Things picked up again from there, with both women going hold for hold, determined to get the important fifth win in the series. At one point Tesla had Izumi trapped in her Bastard Grinder, but Sato fought to get out of it, refusing to give up before finally picking St. James' leg and countering with an ankle lock to much approval from the fans. But she was unable to get Tesla to submit with that either, as "Red Irish" eventually got her way to the ropes, forcing the break. When they got back to their feet, Sato then speared St. James to the mat and started raining down blows, similar to what she did against Nina Grimsson at Warrior Spirit Destiny #1. But feeling the momentum shift in her favor, Izumi then got back to her feet with a big smile on her face, before helping St. James up as well. Only to drive her head into the canvas with a tornado DDT followed by a pin attempt. St. James wouldn't stay down for the count though, and eventually rallied back herself, catching Sato in a cross body and countering it into her Golgotha Driver for a near fall, and then locked Izumi into a sharpshooter. But that couldn't put her away either, as Izumi fought tooth and nail to get to the ropes to force the break once again. The end finally came when Tesla underhooked Izumi's arms and tried to pull her up for the Gone To Texas (tiger driver), but Sato managed to block it, preventing her from being lifted up. She then freed herself from the underhooks, and surprised Tesla out of nowhere with her brand new arm triangle STO - which Sato held onto as a submission, forcing Tesla to tap out.
WINNER: "Pure Heart Warrior" Izumi Sato via Submission with the Arm Triangle STO.
Post-match, as Sato's arm was raised, Nina Grimsson came out of nowhere and yanked her through the ropes to the apron, where Grimsson hit her motorcycle chain-assisted Demon Drop, driving Sato through the timekeeper's table. Presumably payback for the spear to the back she took from Izumi on the last show. Though if you ask me, Nina had it coming. But the show came to a close at that point, with Grimsson climbing out of the rubble and just standing there, glaring down at Izumi.
Hopefully next time, Izumi Sato will be able to get some REAL payback on Grimsson. Thank you all for reading. I'm Maggie Paulson, signing off.
